Old Fashioned Gingerbread

1/2 cup shortening (butter is best)
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup molasses
2 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup hot water
Cream shortening with sugar; beat in molasses and egg. Stir in dry ingredients; beat in hot water until smooth. Bake in greased pan (13x9x2) at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
